 Thursday, May 23, 2002FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: VANCOUVER GRIFFINS SIGN CAMMI GRANATO CAPTAIN OF TEAM U.S.A. Vancouver Griffins’ President and General Manager, Philip DeGrandpre, announced today the signing of U.S. National team captain CAMMI GRANATO for the upcoming 2002/2003 NWHL season. Granato, 31, won Gold in 1998’ (Nagano, Japan) and Silver in 2002 (Salt Lake City). As Captain of Team USA, Granato brings a wealth of International experience that should compliment a young Griffins’ team. She led the 2001-02 USA National team in scoring with 48 pts (27-21) in 25 games leading up to the XVIIII Olympic Winter games in Salt Lake City. Granato, who is the all-time leading scorer in USA women’s hockey, will no doubt have an immediate impact in the National Women’s Hockey League. Second in overall U.S. National team scoring in 2000-01 she compiled 68 pts (36-32) in 38 games with the U.S. National Team in 2000-01. Cammi Granato is the only player to have been a member of all seven U.S. Women’s National Teams that have competed at the IIHF World Championships (1990, 1992, 1994, 1997, 1999, 2001) and is the all-time leading scorer in U.S. history of the IIHF Women’s World Championships with 72 pts (42-29). “Cammi is one of the best players in the world and will have an immediate impact on our team” said Degrandpre. “She is a threat every time she is on the ice and leads by example. Without a doubt she is one of the most exciting players in the world to watch. “ I am very excited to be invited to play for the Vancouver Griffins this season.
