VANCOUVER GRIFFINS UNVEIL NEW TEAM LOGO
Vancouver - The Vancouver Griffins Hockey Club of the National
Women's Hockey League (NWHL) today revealed their new team logo. The
image is of a stylized Griffin, drawn in the team's colours of red,
blue, and white. The logo was designed by Emmanuel Soupidis, Art Director
at Black Box Games, the Vancouver-based software developer behind SEGA
Dreamcast's recently released NHL 2K.
"We wanted a new logo that would convey the energy and excitement
of NWHL hockey," said Griffin's President and General Manager Philip
DeGrandpre. "Emmanuel has definitely captured that; we are very pleased
with the new look," he continued.
More than 70 female players from BC, Alberta, the US, and Germany are
registered to attend the Griffins' rookie tryout camp on June 9th, 10th,
and 11th at Burnaby 8-rinks. Some volunteer positions for this event
are still available; contact Tanya Foley, Griffins' Event Coordinator
at (604) 738-4339 for more information on volunteering. The team's home
opener will be at GM Place on October 15th, against the Brampton Thunder.
Established in January of this year, the Vancouver Griffins are the
newest franchise in the 10-team semi-professional NWHL, the world's
premier women's hockey league. The Griffins have applied for membership
in the BC Amateur Hockey Association (BCAHA) and for affiliate membership
in the South Coast Female Amateur Hockey League.
