NANCY DROLET NAMED TO NATIONAL TEAM
ROSTER FOR 2001 WORLDS

VANCOUVER, BC - The coaching staff of Canada’s National Women’s Hockey Team announced the roster for the 2001 Women’s World Hockey Championships at press conferences in Montreal and Calgary today. Vancouver Griffins’ Captain Nancy Drolet is among the 20 players who will represent Canada at the IIHF tournament, taking place from April 2nd to 8th in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

“As a hockey player, the ultimate honour is to represent your country. So I get the same butterflies in my stomach each time I have the chance to hear our anthem, standing at the blue-line, wearing a Team Canada jersey. I don’t think that will ever change in my heart,” says Drolet “Like my teammates, I will do my very best to bring back the seventh gold medal for Canada. I want to thank the coaching staff for demonstrating their confidence in me by giving me this opportunity,” she continues.

This year’s tournament marks Drolet’s sixth appearance for Team Canada at the Worlds. She scored the gold-medal-winning goal in overtime at both the 1997 and 2000 Worlds. She played most recently for Team Canada during its five-game Western Tour versus Team Sweden this past January.

Team Canada has won all six previous World Championships and has never lost a game in the tournament’s history. During the tournament Canada will face teams from the USA, Finland, Sweden, China, Russia, and Kazakhstan. TSN will broadcast the semi-final game on April 7th, and the final on April 8th. Drolet joined the NWHL Vancouver Griffins last October for their inaugural season, and has led the team in points this year with 38 points in 15 games. She is an Olympic medallist from the 1998 Nagano Winter Games, a five-time World Champion, seven-time National Champion, and 2000 NWHL All-Star.
