FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: VANCOUVER GRIFFINS READY FOR TRAINING CAMP . The 2002-2003 National Women’s Hockey League (NWHL) season is quickly approaching, and the Vancouver Griffins are getting ready to drop the puck on a landmark year in women’s hockey in Canada. Training camp for the Griffins starts Wednesday, August 28th at Burnaby 8 Rinks in Burnaby, British Columbia. A total of 53 players will vie for a spot on the Griffins' roster. Players will go through three days of intensive training and evaluation, then camp will wrap up with a showcase intrasquad game on Saturday, August 31st beginning at 10:15 a.m. on Blue A. Among those in attendance will be Canadian national team veteran NANCY DROLET, along with two of the newest Griffins, U.S. national team Captain CAMMI GRANATO, and her team-mate on the U.S. national squad, SHELLEY LOONEY. The Griffins will also welcome back several members of last year’s squad that qualified for the NWHL Championships in March, 2002. The 2002-2003 season promises to be the most exciting and important year in the history of the Vancouver Griffins. The addition of the Calgary Oval X-treme and the Edmonton Chimos to the NWHL ensures the Griffins will face the highest level of competition available in Canada. The signings of Cammi Granato and Shelley Looney prove the Griffins are up to the task. Training camp is open to the media, and players will be made available for interviews upon arrangement.
