VANCOUVER GRIFFINS ANNOUCE INAUGURAL TEAM ROSTER
Vancouver - Sylvain Leone, Head Coach of the NWHL Vancouver Griffins
Hockey Club, is pleased to announce the players who will make up the
Griffins' historic first team. The 22 players were selected from among
33 of BC's best female hockey talent at an evaluation camp this past
weekend at Centre Ice in Abbotsford. The team is made up of women from
across the province, including players from Vancouver, Victoria, Surrey,
Richmond, Coquitlam, North Vancouver, Chiliwack, Abbotsford, Kelowna,
Lillooet, Logan Lake, and Whistler. One player from Alberta, goaltender
Krista Cloutier, and one international player, forward Julia Berg of
the Norweigan national team, also made the final roster.
"I am very pleased with the level of talent and dedication of all the
players who came to camp this past weekend," said Leone. "The exhibition
schedule we will play this year allows us to play top teams in the NWHL
and CIAU, as well as the top AAA teams in BC. This experience will prepare
the players well for a competitive NWHL season next year," he continued.

Established in January of this year, the Vancouver Griffins are the
newest franchise in the 10 -team, semi-professional, NWHL, the world's
premier women's hockey league. The team will play an exhibition schedule
this coming season, and begin full interlocking play in the NWHL in
2001 - 2002.
